Pearl Liquors is set to introduce a new wave of high-end international spirits into the Ugandan market, beginning with alkaline vodka and an array of luxury tequilas.
The portfolio includes Ley 925 Tequila, the flavoured brand famed for creating a record-breaking $3.5m bottle. In Uganda, its regular bottles will be priced between Shs400,000 and Shs500,000.
The company has also signed exclusive distribution rights for Lamborghini Tequila and Casino Azul, making Pearl Liquors the only authorised importer of the two premium labels.
The final line in the rollout is Vodka Cruisers from Asahi Beverages. The drink, which is being rebranded locally as “Cocktails On The Go,” will officially be launched on December 13.
Speaking to journalists, Pearl Liquors Chief Executive Stuart Raymond Kasule, a Ugandan who previously lived in Australia, said the products underwent a rigorous approval process before being cleared for the local market.
He noted that samples had to be tested by both the Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) and Infinity Labs in Australia, covering everything from ethanol levels to metal residues and flavour profiles.
Kasule explained that each brand required multiple certificates of conformity, adding that the process was costly but necessary to maintain international standards.
He highlighted that a single laboratory test can cost between Shs3m and Shs4m, with even a carbon dioxide test alone costing about Shs1.5m.
He described the system as “robust but worth it,” saying Uganda needs more premium beverages that meet global quality benchmarks. According to him, the expansion will contribute to job creation, increase tax revenue and support Uganda’s integration into global trade networks.
Kasule also revealed that discussions are underway with Asahi Beverages, one of the world’s largest drinks manufacturers, to explore the possibility of setting up operations in sub-Saharan Africa, potentially in Uganda.
On product availability, he said Pearl Liquors has deployed teams in Kampala, Masaka and Mbarara to build partnerships with bars, clubs and distributors, supported by media outreach and promotional events. He added that Ugandan consumers are increasingly seeking premium drink experiences.
Kasule further emphasised that Offshore Vodka, the world’s leading alkaline vodka, will be among the headline arrivals.
The brand uses alkaline water, said to reduce hangovers, and Pearl Liquors holds the exclusive rights to distribute it across Africa, starting with Uganda.
Other products lined up include Ley 925 Tequila, Lamborghini Tequila and Casino Azul, all positioned as top-tier international brands.
The company will also introduce four initial flavours of Vodka Cruisers — lemon lime, pineapple, raspberry and blueberry — targeted at consumers looking for convenient, ready-to-drink cocktails both at home and in nightlife settings.
